About Cornelius Gurlitt
Cornelius Gurlitt (February 10, 1820 – June 17, 1901) was a German pianist and composer. A classmate of composer and conductor Carl Reinecke and friend of Danish composer Niels Gade, he is best known as more of a teacher of piano than a composer. However, some of his pieces, like his collection of piano studies and his 6 Sonatinas, Op. 54, still remain in piano textbooks. Other noted works include the piece By the Spring from his Albumleaves for the Young, Op. 101 for Piano.
