This ensemble is best known for its work on the album Today and Now, released in 1963 under the Impulse! label. Today and Now was recorded over two sessions on September 9 and 11, 1962, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The album combines traditional jazz tunes and original compositions, showcasing Hawkins' ability to blend various styles.
