About Chen Gang
Chen Gang (陳鋼 or 陈钢 born 1935) is a Chinese composer in the western classical tradition. He first studied composition with his father Chen Ge Xin, followed by entry to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1955. In his final year of study at the conservatory he wrote, together with He Zhanhao the "Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto" (梁祝小提琴协奏曲), one of the most popular modern works of Chinese music, winning five Golden Record prizes as well as a Platinum Record prize.
