About Caterina Giani
Caterina Giani (c. 1630–after 1673) is known today as a rare named female composer from seventeenth-century Italy whose music survives in a single work. Her Liebster Jesu, trautes Leben—for solo voice, two violins, and continuo—survives in the Düben Collection (University of Uppsala), and modern editions treat it as the only securely preserved composition by her. Separate documentary research places a singer named Caterina Giani in the Venetian operatic labour market in the early 1650s
