Caspar Franz Stary (also reported as Stray; 1732–1777) was an Austrian clerical composer and organist born in Freidorf an der Laßnitz (Styria) and active in Vienna, where he died in 1777. Bibliographic catalogues describe him as a Franciscan priest, working as a composer and organist within the Viennese ecclesiastical milieu. His surviving musical footprint is centred on organ music: modern library records and anthologies of Viennese repertory around the mid-18th century transmit several preludes and fugues in church tones under his name
