
About Buddy Terry
A child prodigy, Buddy Terry started out playing the clarinet at the age of 12 before picking up the tenor sax in 1955. As a teenager, he was sitting in at some of Newark's most popular jazz clubs and playing with many of the big bands around town. Later, as a professional, he played in the bands of some of the biggest names in modern music, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, Jimmy McGriff, Joe Morello, Sy Oliver and Thad Jones and Mel Lewis.
