Brand New Disaster began in Blacksburg, VA in 2001. Members Chris Shephard (guitar), Garrett Berneche (guitar), Billy Chubb (bass), Phil Williams (vocals), and Paul Dempshur (drums) formed the band's original lineup. The band started out playing local shows at the Solar Haus and 708 House during the heyday of Blacksburg's local house show and independent music scene. The band recorded a 5-song self-titled demo in 2001. In 2002, Paul Dempshur left the band and was replaced by Tanner Boyle.
