Barbarous is an American death metal band hailing from Oakland, California, in the heart of the Bay Area. Formed in early 2024, the band embodies a raw, aggressive style they self-describe as "barbaric death metal," drawing heavily from the old-school death metal blueprint of the late 1980s and early 1990s while infusing it with modern ferocity. Their sound features punishing grooves, heavy riffs, pounding drums, and ferocious vocals, evoking influences like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Skeletal Remains, Necrot, and Gatecreeper.
