In November 1939 AVRO renamed the AVRO Dansorkest to the AVRO Dance Band again led by Klaas van Beeck. As with AVRO 's previous radio-band reorganizations, the band's members altered but it remained based in Hilversum, the home of broadcasting in the Netherlands. By August 1940 the German occupying forces had political control, and the popularity of the American genre of jazz swing was proving uncomfortable for both them and the broadcaster AVRO.
