About Australian Playboys
Normie Rowe was the most popular male vocalist in Australia (with a string of hits) when in August 1966 he travelled to the United Kingdom in an unsuccessful attempt to establish a fanbase there. His backing band, The Playboys, followed him and with a hybrid Anglo-Australian line-up recorded a single without Rowe for the Immediate record label, comprising their eccentric reworking of 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' ('Black Sheep R.I.P.') and a freakbeat number called 'Sad', penned by bassist Brian Peacock.
