American post-bop jazz pianist, born 1972 in Chicago, Illinois. Educated at Berklee School of music. Now based in Brooklyn, NY. Biographical information is scant. Influences include Bill Evans, Bud Powell, Wynton Kelly, Red Garland, Hampton Hawes, and Mulgrew Miller. There have been several trios. Reviewers have praised Wonsey as one of the most promising pianists of his generation, with a healthy respect for tradition and an adventurous and flexible style with a crisp attack.
