Vakker is an American atmospheric black metal band from Reno, Nevada, that was formed as a cathartic outlet for grief and a way to vocalize the pain of losing loved ones. The band's creation is rooted in personal tragedy. Vakker was formed from the ashes of a previous crusty band called Dissidence after a core member of their community, Curtis Castro, passed away. The band members view their music as a way to channel their emotions in a healthy manner and to honor their lost friends and chosen family.
