In 2004 seven musicians living in Palestine came together to form the music group Turab ("Soil" or "Earth" in Arabic). Their vision is to create an original Palestinian sound and translate into music the complexities of politics, resistance, poverty, love, and daily life in present-day Palestine. Turab's songs tell the story of Palestinians, their connection to their homeland, and their struggle for freedom and justice. Turab's style is influenced by a variety of musical traditions, including Arabic, reggae, Latin and jazz, among others.
