Splinter Orchestra are a diverse assemblage of NSW-based musicians and sound artists with an interest in group improvisational processes. They have been described as "one of the few large-scale improvisational ensembles working in Australia, or anywhere else for that matter... The group aims for graceful tension, restraint and simplicity. They are intent on becoming one instrument..." The 'ecology' of the group is controlled by a preference for small sounds and a gradual, 'evolutionary' pace of musical development.
