The New York Powerhouse Ensemble; Mickey Bass's long-running ensemble is hard-bop with fire and soul. Two ace saxophonists - the redoubtable altoist Gary Bartz and tenor Craig Handy - man the front line and this week the rhythm section has a revolving door at the piano, with George Cables coming in on Thursday, followed by Hilton Ruiz on Friday and John Hicks on Saturday.
