The Mercy Alliance is a Washington DC based band led by songwriter Joe Rathbone specializing in emotive, melodic indie rock with an aggressive rhythm section featuring longtime DC drummer David Lopez, who’s lyrical playing provides a great foil for Rathbone’s raw baritone and gritty guitar playing. The band’s “sound” draws on influences ranging from the upbeat roots rock of Wilco and Alejandro Escovedo to a beautiful “down” in the vein of Joe Henry and early Neil Young.
