The remarkable folk artistry of the Kurmangazy Orchestra, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in November, 2004, has drawn rave reviews in London, Vienna, Rome, Paris, Berlin, and Tokyo. The orchestra is the largest one in Kazakhstan. It is named after Kurmangazy -- the most renowned Kazakh folk composer and dombra player of the 19th century. Since 1991, the orchestra has been conducted by the Merited artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aytkali Zhayimov.
