The Hybrid Vine began in 1992 in Glasgow, Scotland, as a band called "Exit" just after founding members John Morrison and Calum Galbraith met. As Exit, they wrote songs about anything and everything, piecing music together as they went. They also learned to play some of Marc Bolan's songs, and that was when things began to get going for them. John had previously in 1990, written a song called "Mercy", which he played for Calum, and Calum added the last verse.
