The Gumm Sisters were a trio of young female performers and consisted of real-life siblings Virginia, Mary-Jane, and Frances Gumm. The most famous of the three, Frances, later changed her name to Judy Garland and became one of the most well-known entertainers in history. The sisters got their start in song-and-dance during the great Vaudeville era of the 1920s, performing locally in Grand Rapids, Minnesota with their mother usually accompanying them on piano.
