Bob Halperin picked up a guitar at age 8. "It looked cool," he says. He was pretty taken by a few classmates at the Elm School in New York who took lessons and then played for an assembly. "I thought 'wow, that's really cool.' So I begged my parents for a guitar." When the Beatles broke into the U.S. market six months later, "that sealed my fate. I wouldn't have stuck with it if I hadn't had an illusion of being a Beatle." He was introduced to the blues at summer camp in junior high, thanks to Roy Book Binder, who happened to be a counselor.
