The Barleycorn, formed in 1971, were an Irish folk band, most famous for their rebel ballads. The original group consisted of Paddy McGuigan, Liam Tiernan, Brian McCormick and John Delaney. Over the years the band had many changes in its line-up. In 1996 The Barleycorn split. John Delaney together with Alec DeGabriele formed a new band, ‘The New Barleycorn’.
