The Barefaced Cheek started with Max Mayhew and Oli Robinson, who had been jamming for years in various bands with no evidential success. With no drummer they called upon Sam Thomason, recommended by their current manager, Robin Henderson. After the bassist, Lloyd Allen, left the band, Robin then suggested the great David King. With David employed on bass, the last piece of the puzzle was in place. After some intense song-writing, they established a sound different from anyone they had ever heard.
