About The Archest
The Archest is a Belgian gothic/doom metal project formed in 2008 in Oostende by guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Vanderwal. The project emerged after Vanderwal paused involvement in other musical endeavors, using The Archest as an outlet for darker, more atmospheric compositions. The music is often described as “spook metal,” blending heavy, melancholic soundscapes with a spiritual and introspective tone. The band was initially active between 2008 and 2011, performing a number of live shows before entering a long period of inactivity.
