2 electricians that worked at the Houston Chronicle used to sing twisted little ditties to each other at work to pass the time. One of them was in a real band. He saw the the phrase "Whip Me Beat Me Call Me Edna" on a wall at an Atlanta punk club (1985). They decided that it would make a good tune. It was written and recorded in less than an hour. The only instrument used was a Casio MT68 Keyboard ($170 cheapie). A cassette was sent to KLOL in Houston.
