It wasn't a hit, but Carter was one of the key backroom figures of his era. he left his band, The Ivy League, in 1966, to concentrate on songwriting and production. After briefly masquerading as The Flower Pot Men he established his unimpeachable bubblegum credentials with a handful of hits for Herman's Hermits and the U.
