The backing band for Rick James during his glory years at Motown, Kenny Hawkins, Tom McDermott, Levi Ruffin, Jr., Daniel LeMelle, Jerry Livingston, Jerry Rainer, and Nat Hughes recorded several songs for Gordy under James' direction during the early '80s. None were very successful.
