For State of Awakening, it all started as a joke, when a professor told Laurenz Goetry, who could play the guitar, and Tom Leroy, who claimed he could sing, to start a band. This is exactly what they did. Together with Jeroen Goemaere and Matthias Dhooghe they started rehearsing about once in six months and wrote Bear Grylls, their first song.
