About Songs of the Khmer Rouge
The English label Cold Spring Records is known for specializing in martial music but its limited-time-only release of ‘Songs of the Khmer Rouge’ from the Dutch Zero Year Recordings gives the genre a historical precedent. This collection of 17 songs from the genocidal regime features a six-armed robotic figure on the cover holding a variety of metal weapons, a heart and, predictably, a skull. Inside the album, held by gingham, is the disc and two pictures from Khmer-era Cambodia.
