Smutfish is a Dutch 'country noir' quartet from The Hague, The Netherlands, fronted by singer/songwriter, guitarist and graphic artist, Melle de Boer. In the early years of its existence, Smutfish released two full-length albums (2004's Lawnmower Mind and 2006's Through A Slightly Open Door) and one EP, entitled The Fish That Couldn't Swim (2004). The albums were universally praised by the music press in The Netherlands and compared to the works of Sparklehorse, Neil Young, Johnny Dowd and The Hague's Hallo Venray.
