Shelton Powe was born to a musical family in Charlotte, N.C., in 1957. He didn't fully embrace musicianship, however, until after the deaths of his mother and father in the late 1980s. Powe picked up the guitar as a tribute to his mother, and immersed himself in old-time blues and gospel in the tradition that he remembered from his childhood. Powe became an active member of the Atlanta, Ga. blues scene before returning to Charlotte, N.C., where he current lives.
