
Sergey Karpetyan was born April 20, 1933 and came into prominence in Armenia in the late '50s. A revivalist of folk songs as well as an innovator, he played clarinet and saxophone but is closely associated with the revival of the duduk on which he played classical Armenian melodies, the tunes of ashugs (antique bards), modern composers, and folks tunes - the full gamut of Armenian national music during the Soviet era. He toured with the ensemble of Armenian Radio and Television to Egypt
