About SAMONIKLI
Belgrade high school students in 1963, founded a rock group they named SAMONIKLI, based on a collection of short stories by Slovene writer Prežihov Voranc. Group members changed frequently in that early period, but by 1964 they stabilized and formed their own style of music, based heavily on instrumentals inspired by The Shadows, and started playing publicly, at school proms and college dance parties. In 1965 and 1966 they played regularly at dances at the Belgrade University School of Technology and soon became widely popular.
