Sad Brad Smith is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter. He gained national attention in 2009 when his song "Help Yourself" was featured in the Jason Reitman film "Up in the Air." Reitman had seen Smith play at a coffeehouse, and asked him to write a song for "Up in the Air." Buzz for the song proved strong; however, it did not qualify for Oscar contention, as Smith admitted that parts of the song had been conceived before Reitman contacted him about the film work.
