Ruud Heij was introduced to electronic music when he was 9 years old through the album Phaedra by Tangerine Dream , and later Moon Dawn by Klaus Schulze , who inspired him to make his own music. Heij started in 1982 as a solo artist and taught, around 1995, René Jansen, with whom he formed "Patchwork". He played several years in Kubusschnitt. Heij's music is based on the Berlin School type of electronic music. Heij joined Alpha Centauri, and eventually joined Marcel Engels' "Free System Projekt".
