
Leon Russell (born Claude Russell Bridges; April 2, 1942 - November 13, 2016) was an American musician and songwriter, who recorded as a session musician, sideman, and maintained a solo career. Known as Russell Bridges he began his musical training at age three, and by age 14, his band, The Starlighters, was playing in Tulsa nightclubs. After graduation from Will Rogers High School, he played for Jerry Lee Lewis at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, then toured with the Lewis band.
