Rory Storm and The Hurricanes were a British rock and roll band from Liverpool, England. Led by Rory Storm (born Alan Caldwell on 21 September 1939; died 28 September 1972) , they were contemporaries of The Beatles in the late 1950s, and early 1960s. Ringo Starr was the drummer for the Hurricanes before joining The Beatles in August 1962. In 1958 Alan Caldwell formed a skiffle group and called themselves ‘Al Caldwell’s Texans’. Alan suffered from a stutter, very noticeable when he spoke but never on stage when performing.
