About Richard Arnell
Richard Arnell (b. 1917) is an English composer. Arnell was born on the 15th September 1917 in Hampstead, London. He studied at the Royal College of Music from 1935 to 1939, where he was taught composition by John Ireland and piano by St John Dykes. He was awarded the Farrar Prize for composition during his final year at the college. At the outset of the Second World War, Arnell found himself stranded in New York, and stayed until 1947, thereby finding himself in the unusual position of having an established reputation in the U.
