Pikiteora "Pixie" Williams was a New Zealand singer best known for the song "Blue Smoke", recorded in 1949. "Blue Smoke" was the first single to be locally recorded and manufactured in New Zealand. "Blue Smoke" was written by Ruru Karaitiana and performed by Pixie Williams. It was a collaboration that nearly didn't happen. Pixie declined Ruru twice when he asked her to record his song. Two months later, after one final request, Pixie agreed. Blue Smoke subsequently launched Pixie's career.
