The legend of the Pixeltank has its roots in the ancient world. There are subtle references to it scattered all throughout primitive and classical writings. Herodotus speaks of a weapon fashioned by Hephaestus in his forge as a gift for Apollo and Ares, the gods of music and war. He writes of its origin: "And Hephaestus forged the formidable megaulos to satisfy the respectable urgings of Apollo. But Ares, not to become an enemy of this new weapon spoke kindly to Apollo and convinced him of his friendship.
