
Philip Brownlee is a composer and sonic artist, based in Wellington, New Zealand. He studied composition at the University of Auckland, with John Elmsly and John Rimmer, and at Victoria University of Wellington, with John Young, Ross Harris, and Dugal McKinnon. He completed a PhD in Composition in 2008. He works in both instrumental and acousmatic media. A significant strand in his instrumental composition (and the subject of his PhD thesis) is the transference of studio techniques to notated music for human performers.
