Obadiah the Proselyte (Ovadyah ha-Ger) (converted 1102; fl. early 12th century) — born Johannes of Oppido (Giovanni da Oppido), a Norman-Italian Christian monk — converted to Judaism in 1102 and thereafter signed himself Ovadyah ha-Ger (“Obadiah the convert”). Everything securely known about his life derives from a small dossier of Cairo Geniza documents, above all his autobiographical memoir, along with a siddur fragment, an epistle written on his behalf
