Nury (Nurmameda) Halmammedow (Turkmen: Nury Halmämmedow, Russian: Нури Халмамедов; 1940–1983) was a Turkmen composer from the Soviet period who created numerous musical genres and has been described as one of Turkmenistan's "greatest sons". His legacy has been commemorated with anniversary events within Turkmenistan. He was born on 24 February 1940 in Baherden, Turkmenistan into a musical family. Nury’s mother was a singer and his brother Bayli played dutar; he took lessons from a famous bakhshi (a folk singer).
