Trumpeter Mutt Carey got his start like so many others with the marching bands in New Orleans sometime around 1913. As a brass band musician he played with the Tuxedo Brass Band sometimes called the Original Tuxedo Brass Band, one of the most highly regarded brass bands of New Orleans, Louisiana in the 1910s and 1920s.
