Minzoto Ya Zaire was a band founded in Leopoldville (now Kinshasa) during the 1950s by Passionist missionary Jed De Laet (better known as Pere Buffalo). The band was a program to help troubled youths of the Billist subculture channel their creative energy. Music from the Bills differed from the rumba typically associated with the Congo. The band lasted into at least the 1970s.
