Mike Swale was born in England in 1952. He began making and recording music in the '60s with the help of a pair of tape recorders, layering tracks by bouncing between machines. In the '70s he became acquainted with musical electronics after acquiring a phaser effects unit built by his brother. Highly impressed by the phaser sound, he taught himself basic electronics and went on to build an ETI4600 synthesiser - a five year project. In the early '90s, he discovered the joy of an Atari ST computer connected to an Akai S950 sampler.
