About Mary Wheeler
Mary Wheeler's original recording of Prove It, was released in early 1966 on the New York based, Calla, label. The song was later covered by Aretha Franklin. Wheeler had been an administrative assistant to Nate McCalla, the owner of the Calla label, when she auditioned for a reluctant McCalla, who needed her as an office manager but not as a recording artist. The result was, Prove It, which features the underappreciated baritone saxophone as well, and it's flip side, Fresh Out Of Teardrops, written by Jimmy Radcliffe and Bruce Scott.
