Martha Schlamme is recognized as one of the greatest singers of Jewish Folk songs. Born in Vienna, Ms. Schlamme spent the war years in the UK, for a period of time in an "enemy alien" camp. Famous for her work with Kurt Weill, she eventually came to the United States and became very successful and respected as a folk singer and prerformed in opera as well. Though she sang beautifully in many languages, her Yiddish recordings are considered her best.
