
Maria Wenda is a West Papuan singer-songwriter and lead singer in The Lani Singers. The band play traditional folk songs of freedom rooted in the sacred rituals of the Lani tribe of West Papua. Maria and her husband Benny fled political persecution and oppression in their occupied homeland and now live in exile in the UK. The Lani Singers have played at festivals including Glastonbury, Musicport, Port Eliot Festival, and were also special guests of English Heritage at the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge in 2009.
