Luther Thomas is an American saxaphone player. He is associated with the St. Louis-based Black Artist's Group (BAG). Thomas recalls these days fondly and claims influence by other BAG members Oliver Lake and Julius Hemphill. He helped found the Human Arts Ensemble, one of the most noteworthy avant garde jazz efforts of the 1970s. His band Dizzazz was a short lived but exciting effort at funk/avant fusion in the 1980s. Thomas has played baritone with James Chance and the Contortions and gigged on his own fro the 80s to the present.
