
Ljubica Marić (1909-2003) is considered to be the most original Serbian composer of the twentieth century and musically the most influential one. She was the first composer in the history of music who systematically used the modal system of the Byzantine Orthodox church music to compose non liturgical works. Ljubica Marić developed her authentic style by using the Byzantine church music within the post-expressionistic idiom. All her compositions are inspired by her personal philosophy based on Taoism.
